About

Built by someone
who's done 12-hour shifts on a mine site.

Clearway Apps is a one-person operation run by Dan Kilkelly, a FIFO shutdown supervisor who got tired of watching small businesses overpay for bad websites, and started building good ones on the side.

The story

Why I started this.

"I know what it's like to run a business while doing 12-hour shifts. That's why Clearway Apps is built around speed, value, and zero faff."

01

The day job pays the bills.

My day job is shutdown supervision, managing teams of tradespeople doing planned maintenance on mine sites across Australia. It's hands-on, high-pressure work where you have to hit tight deadlines with limited hours and people who've been awake for too long. You learn fast that the projects that succeed are the ones where scope is clear, decisions happen quickly, and nobody is hiding behind a spreadsheet instead of doing the work. That's the lens I bring to Clearway Apps.

02

The small-business website problem.

I've got mates running trade businesses, mobile services, little shops. Over the years I watched a pattern repeat: they'd pay two, three, sometimes five grand for a website that loaded slowly, looked generic, stopped working after six months, and couldn't be updated without paying the original developer more money. Or they'd try to build it themselves on Wix and end up with something that technically existed but didn't bring in a single customer. The good end of the market was being serviced by agencies charging agency prices. The bottom end was DIY page builders. Nothing in between was genuinely good.

Clearway Apps was built to sit in that gap. A proper website, built on the same modern stack agencies use for their enterprise clients, priced at something a sole trader can actually afford. That meant being ruthless about what the price tag could support, and being honest about what it couldn't.

03

AI-leveraged, but not AI-faked.

The honest answer for how Clearway can charge a fraction of agency rates and still ship enterprise-quality work: AI. Not AI-generated landing pages with stock photos and vague copy, the kind of slop that's flooded the internet. Actual software engineering accelerated by large language models. Claude, GPT-class models, and custom tooling built on top of them, used the way a senior engineer uses a skilled junior: to handle boilerplate, scaffold components, generate type definitions, write tests, and take care of the repetitive plumbing so I can spend the time on design decisions, business logic, and quality.

The tradeoff isn't quality, it's the margin. An agency has a project manager, a designer, a developer, a QA person, a sales person, a head of delivery, and a few layers of profit margin stacked on top. Clearway is one builder with a stack of modern tools. Same output, fraction of the overhead, fraction of the price. I pass most of that difference on.

What makes this service different.

Three things, really. First, fair pricing, you're not subsidising an agency's office rent or their sales team. Second, fast turnaround, a Starter website is live in days, not months, because the scope is tight and the tooling is modern. Third, a real human you can ring when something needs fixing. I'm not outsourcing your project to a contractor in another country. I'm not disappearing after launch. The number on the invoice reaches me directly.

The trade-off, and I'll be upfront about it: I'm not a 200-person agency. I take on a limited number of projects. Response times are genuinely fast, but if you need a team of ten people sitting in a boardroom workshopping your brand strategy for three months, that's not me. If you need a good website or a practical web app built properly by someone who shows up, that is me.

How I run this

Four things I don't compromise on.

Fair pricing.

A website shouldn't cost what a car costs. A small web app shouldn't need a five-figure deposit. We price what things actually cost to build in 2026, not what agencies can get away with charging.

Fast turnaround.

A Starter website is live in days. A Professional one in under two weeks. A full MVP in four to eight weeks. That speed comes from tight scope, modern tooling, and not wasting your time with approval chains.

One person, end to end.

You talk to the builder. Decisions happen in hours, not weeks. No account manager translating your brief into something slightly different for a developer you never meet.

Real accountability.

Clearway Apps trades as Kilkelly Enterprises, a registered Australian business, ABN on the footer. If something breaks, you know exactly who to ring.

The stack

Modern tools, no lock-in.

Every Clearway project is built on tools you could take to any other developer on earth and they'd know what to do with it. You own the code. You own the database. You own the domain.
