Harriet Finch, Celebrant

The approach

Listening first, writing second

Juniper & Oak is the work of Harriet Finch, a Commonwealth-registered marriage celebrant practising since 2014. Eleven years, more than three hundred ceremonies, and a conviction that the best ceremonies are the ones that sound like the people standing inside them. Harriet trained originally as a literature tutor, which is perhaps why couples keep describing the ceremony as the part of the day their guests still talk about. Services are offered in Cottesloe and across Western Australia, from intimate elopements on the limestone cliffs to larger family weddings in the South West, alongside funerals, namings and vow renewals approached with the same patient listening and careful writing.
Private

Every conversation, every draft, every detail stays between us until the day.

Unhurried

A typical wedding involves three meetings and two full draft revisions before the day.

Inclusive

LGBTQIA+, interfaith and multicultural ceremonies are welcomed without caveat.

Travelled

From the Cottesloe limestone to Karijini gorges, ceremonies held across WA.

In their own words

Letters received

“Harriet sat with us for two hours in our kitchen, asked the kind of questions no one had asked us before, and returned three weeks later with a ceremony that made our fathers cry. Our friends still quote lines from it eight months on.”
Eleanor & James·Married at North Cottesloe, October 2024
“When my father passed we were a mess, and Harriet held the whole service so gently that it felt like the family was writing it together. She knew exactly when to step back and let the silence do its work.”
The Whitlock family·Memorial service, Fremantle cemetery
“We had a very small elopement at Yallingup with only our two closest friends as witnesses. Harriet travelled down, arrived early, and gave us the most quietly beautiful twenty minutes of our lives.”

Practical matters

Questions commonly asked

Under Australian law, couples must lodge a Notice of Intended Marriage with their celebrant at least one calendar month and one day before the wedding date. Harriet handles the paperwork, witnesses the required declarations, and lodges the marriage registration after the ceremony. Maximum window is eighteen months in advance.
